Hi to everyone,

I am Julia, originally from Germany, but currently living in Malaysia. I did some leatherwork before, but that was several years ago and I sure hope that I will finally find the time to get back to this great hobby. I recently managed to get all my tools and stuff from Germany - now I only need to find out if there is any supplier for leather around here.

If there is anybody who knows about resources in Malaysia (Penang), I would be happy about some tips.

Hoping to find a lot of new and interesting people/ideas/contacts ... here.

Julia

Welcome to LW from Southern Nevada USA

Malaysia is quite a difference from Germany, how did you end up there?

You laugh at me because I am different. I laugh at you because you are all the same.

Hi Julia,

I am in Singapore, born in Malaysia. I grew up here, and even served in the military. So I ain't so familiar with Malaysia anymore.

However, here in Singapore, most leather crafters still have to order our leather online. The only source here has hides only from India and the qualities aren't desirable.

I doubt you will find any dedicated leather craft supplier over there. But there definitely will be leather suppliers for saddle repairs, shoe makers, etc. You can have a chat with the guys doing saddle repair for the local equestrian club to see where their leather come from if you want a local source.
