Contributing Member UKRay Posted February 25, 2011 Contributing Member Report Posted February 25, 2011 A couple of my 'stock' guitar straps. Pics were sent to me as a 'thank you' by the customer (who made a much better job of the photography than I could! Members cem Posted February 26, 2011 Members Report Posted February 26, 2011 Very nice Ray they are some fine looking guitar straps and Iike Luke said whats the secret to this mysterious actual white thread on dyed straps. Cheers, Clair Quote
Contributing Member UKRay Posted February 26, 2011 Author Contributing Member Report Posted February 26, 2011 Thanks for the kind words. No secret to the white thread other than keeping the work clean, dyeing the leather and burnishing it well, then sealing it properly before top stitching. Stuff we all do really. It takes a bit longer to do it properly but I like the results so it is worth it. Contributing Member UKRay Posted February 27, 2011 Author Contributing Member Report Posted February 27, 2011 The only hardware on my straps is a single snap on the adjuster - you can get those from Tandy Leather Factory and the 'strap lock' at either end which should be available from any good guitar shop. Members Nighthawk Posted February 27, 2011 Members Report Posted February 27, 2011 where can a man find this hardware on your straps......UK or US...??? Thanks Here's a link to strap locks on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Schaller-Guitar-Strap-Buttons-Nickel/dp/B000960KNW/ref=sr_1_15?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1298837295&sr=1-15 I have a set of those on my bass. They are excellent!! So- UKRay- thanks for posting this. I've been planning a strap for my sons bass, and haven't yet started on it. Did you hand stitch your white thread, or is it machine done? I have shied away from doing this kind of project because I don't have a machine, and hand stitching it would take such a long time! Contributing Member UKRay Posted February 27, 2011 Author Contributing Member Report Posted February 27, 2011 This is all machine stitched. I make quite a few of these straps each week and wouldn't have the time to hand stitch. I use a big Highlead harness stitcher that seems to cope with almost any thickness of leather without needing any adjustment. It doesn't like thin thread though!
