I am making leather items that will be subjected to salt water. Should I seal the flesh side? And if so with what? I have been using Latigo, would some of the oily leathers be better? I left a sheath out in the rain and the next day it seemed to have a black mold on it. Not sure and it would not brush off.

What kind of leather goods are you making?

Not sure about the salt water, but I would definite seal the inside (flesh side).

I personally like to use Super Sheen Spray on the outside of my holsters and a 50/50 mix of Acrylic Resolene and water on the inside.

YMMV

Bees Natural Products put out a saddle oil with a fungicide that will stop mold from growing. It was developed for saddle makers in humid climates that have a real proble with mold and mildew. Might help with your problem
