Kevin King Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 I'm sorry for posting so much stuff here, but i'm kinda addicted. Anyone else feel the same? So I didn't have alot of time in the shop today, (bout an hour and half) so I whipped up an idea i'd been having for a while. Actualy, I think ETWGrumpy may have made a similar wallet. Not sure, but I liked the finish and the simplicity of the one I saw. So Levi, if that was you, thanks for the inspiration. Bare Bones kinda says it all. No frills, just a bare bones wallet. Quote
steveb Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 lol - main, i love thqt people post their work here, dang if mine were better i'd share more....ha! anyway Kevin well... i get the concept, but i cant say it is my favorite piece of yours...seems kind of like one of those distressed pairs of jeans that is trying too hard to be authentic, know what I mean? i think your too good a craftsman and artist to be pulling off "quick & crude"...or down and dirty.. personally, i like your style very much my .02, worth what ya paid - but i am really digging your snark-a-mundo linings - very shweet!! steveb Quote
Kevin King Posted January 15, 2008 Author Report Posted January 15, 2008 ah, come on steve. I love to look at your stuff. you should put more up for everyone else to see. This wallet was an experiment in what can i make in a short amount of time.. It's also gonna go on ebay to see what it'll fetch...never no. Quote
steveb Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 ah, come on steve. I love to look at your stuff. you should put more up for everyone else to see. This wallet was an experiment in what can i make in a short amount of time..It's also gonna go on ebay to see what it'll fetch...never no. please- i have NO problem showing my ass, obviously - you've seen my site - but my day yob got me a runnin' and i've been squatting on a few jobs and really really need to get out to the shop for a few sessions...and i know I have more work a 'waiting at my POB...ugh.. as long as people don't mind waiting, and they don't, i will keep on now i think that ebay idea is wonderful, if you want to give it away - if youve got a local bike shop thats decent - put a chain on the wallet and tell the owner to hang it from a hook - give him 25% of what he can sell it for above XX$$ i'd say a decent bike shop could sell that for $200+/- or so, depending and youve made a connection... (now i just may be out of line, you may be a salty dog thats already run this path, in which case, I withdraw my sugg..ha!!) but in my experience ebay is full of bargain hunters and knuckleheads buying chrome hearts repro crap...and i just hate that, know what i mean? lol, thats me, the optimist steveb Quote
Members Hidemechanic Posted January 15, 2008 Members Report Posted January 15, 2008 Don't worry, someone will love that wallet and pay for it, that's the great thing about leather, not everyone sees things like we do. Doesn't mean we should lower our standards, just don't through something out if it doesn't meet our standards. Just have to know where to peddle it that won't reflect on your quality rep. KK do I detect the need to check the tension on your mechine? It looks like you either need to losen the top thread tensioner or tighten you bobbin tensioner to get your loop in the middle of your work.Maybe it's just the pics, or real thin hide? Go for it man. Kevin King Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Posted January 16, 2008 Steve, those are all very good points, and i would rather not have anything on ebay, and do all custom work. Someone on here said something though that really made me think. I'm probly gonna screw this up but i think it went something like "make for the classes live with the masses, make for the masses, live with the classes." Hide, thanks for the tip, there are a couple things going with this wallet as far as the stitching. It is very thin, and I used med. brown antiqueing on this (after it was sewn) so it kinda "smeared" the stitching. But yes the photo does look like what you mentioned. KK Quote
Members gearsmithy Posted January 16, 2008 Members Report Posted January 16, 2008 I like it. I would've opted for tooled bones on the front but I kinda like the color. How'd you get that color Kev? Quote
Kevin King Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Posted January 16, 2008 (edited) I like it. I would've opted for tooled bones on the front but I kinda like the color. How'd you get that color Kev? Its just natural leather with medium brown antique paste carelessly applied. I think tooled would've been cool to, but I was trying to see how quick I could put this together and I would've had to wait for the leather to dry had I tooled em. So that would've put me into the next day as I let my tooled wallets dry overnight before I sew. That way I dont get presser feet impressions. KK Edited January 16, 2008 by Kevin King Quote
ETW Grumpy Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 Looks good Kev. I like your linings, too. Keep it up. Quote
Members ELAD Posted January 17, 2008 Members Report Posted January 17, 2008 Nice website and excellent work ~ tooling & stitching especially. I like the finish you used on your Bare Bones piece. It works. I used a similar finish on this piece. I think it has a bone quality to it. Quote
Kevin King Posted January 17, 2008 Author Report Posted January 17, 2008 WOW! That is cool. You're right, definately a "bone" quality. KK Quote
