Getting Rid of stuff

I have four seats that I made as sample seats to start my website off. They have been sitting in a box doing nothing. I'm thinking of just throwing them up on ebay for next to nothing. They are only small chopper seats. The proceeds will go to my kids bedroom restoration fund.

Do you think that would be detrimental? I don't want to get known as the "Ebay Queen".

On our marketplace would be great. On Ebay would be OK. "Next to nothing"...I don't think so!

I don't think Ebay is going to hurt your reputation as a seat maker. Some people use that route just for the exposure and advertising, trying to draw people to thier website. Offering your seats here on Leatherworker can't hurt either. I know there are a lot of fans of your work here. It sure seems to me that there ought to be some bike store somewhere that would take your seats on consignment and demand a resonable price for your work. Or maybe someone that has a booth at a bike show somewhere. I know I am not the person to tell anyone how to market thier work, because I do a lousy job of it myself, but I really hate to see someone like you that does really great work have to give it away. That just seems so wrong to me. The biggest thing about offering them for "next to nothing" is that people might wonder if that has anything to do with the quality of your work. Somehow you need to convey to them that this is not your regular price but a promo, or inventory reduction or some sort and no reflection your regular product.

Considering the 6 to 8 hundred dollar price tag on seats out there I think next to nothing might not be a good idea. Maybe an auction or charity thing. I would think that lots of venues would be available as riding season is getting underway. Children or veterans organizations maybe? Ebay would not harm your rep but price as sited in the above post might as far as some dope thinking there must be something wrong with them. I love the second one very cool.

Thanks for your advice guys. I know what you're saying about pricing them too low, I just don't really want to make anything big off these. I can't give them to a charitable cause, because as they say charity begins at home, and my 10 year old is seeing the dollar signs already. There just aren't that many places to sell something like this if you are not going to a bike show, and like I said they are not full size seats. I'll probably end up throwing them back in the box and paying for her new bed myself. (There's nothig wrong with the bed she has, she 'needs' the pullout sleepover bed on the bottom)

These seats don't seem like the stuff that usually sells on Etsy.com, but you can list them there at a respectable price for four months for just twenty cents. You may be surprised.
