Bryce Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Hello all, I've been a member for a couple of weeks now and have been reading and looking at alot of post on this site. I found this site while looking into leatherworking and have now completed my first couple of projects. I had no idea leather could be tooled to such neet forms. I hope to learn how to make bags, boxes, and just about any thing usefull. After seeing some of the stuff on this site I started with the wood board pattern. I love the look. I have not been too happy with the figure carvings that I've tried. Something about bevelling after cutting and the whole molding that I'm missing. I have been blow away with many of the works you all have done. I hope to learn alot from everyone. Any how, here are couple of examples of where I am currently. Froghunter Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Looks like you have a GREAT start there! Keep up the good work! And as for figure carving, practice practice and then practice some more. Most of all use the wonderful resources we have here in our community to learn, ask questions of, etc. A wise man once told me: "if you wanna be a good leather carver, ya gotta burn up some leather"! In other words POUND some leather, take the constructive critisism and apply it to your work, then pound some more leather. In no time you will see your skills grow and so will your enjoyment of the craft!
Beaverslayer Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Welcome to thr forum Bryce, it's always great to see new people show up and post their work. So far you are doing some good looking stuff, the belts are awesome. Carving takes practice, and lot's of it, just take your time and you'll get it right. TomSwede Report post Posted May 25, 2008 Welcome Bryce! Looking good so far so I second Frog on practising. You're on your way so keep it up. One thing I notice is how very clean and straight lines you made on the toolbox item, that's one thing to be good at if you're gonna do more belts and want to carve borders. Bryce Report post Posted May 26, 2008 Thank you all for your words of encouragement. I think I’ll buy a dvd or something that shows some of the ins and outs. Of coarse as I know what to ask, I’ll be here posting for pointers. In the mean time, it's fun playing around with.
