Members Kyleather Posted May 5, 2011 Members Report Posted May 5, 2011 Does anybody have a knife sheath how to? I was also wondering if there is a way to join leather besides sewing? I'm not opposed to sewing, I've just never done it.. I've got a fixed blade knife that needs a sheath. What kind of leather do I need to use? Quote
Members TexasJack Posted May 6, 2011 Members Report Posted May 6, 2011 Try using the "search" box at the top of the page for tutorials. As for joining leather without sewing, yes, you can use rivets or do lacing. You might try dropping by a Tandy Leather store, or looking their web site up online. They've got some kits that will let you do that. If you get really interested in sheath making, Chuck Burrows and Paul Long both have great DVDs that will guide you through the process. Quote

Members Big O Posted May 7, 2011 Members Report Posted May 7, 2011 Vegetable-tanned leather, at least 6/7 oz and probably 8/9 oz. You can use rivets, but sewing connects the ENTIRE length of the sheath edge. It'll need a welt along the blade edge side, so the blade doesn't cut the thread. Search around the site. Plenty of good resources here. In addition to the occasional tutorial, I've found a LOT of good ideas just from photos. Quote
Members AZ09 Posted May 10, 2011 Members Report Posted May 10, 2011 Also search youtube,I seem to recall a video of a guy making a sheath in his shop using rivets... Quote
