Al Stohlman Swivel Knife W/ Maple Burl

Recommended Posts

I'm not a big fan of stacked leather, and I am an avid woodturner - so I have taken the leather off my ASB knives and added a nice maple burl.

I think the color looks nice against the antique finish of the knife.

Looks nice N. I'm guessing one of the ends comes off to slip the wood on?

If you haven't found it yet, there is a great group over at WoodturnersResource that is similar to the leather group we have here but for turning. I founded that forum about 10 years ago and have since passed it on to another turner to manage.

Thanks! I'll check them out.

If you undo the screw, the bottom stop just unscrews. the leather is glued, but a set of pliers made short work of it.

Hello. It was pretty straight forward. Undoing the set screw on the blade side, the stop just unscrews. The only special thing I had to do was to turn down the bushings of the correct outer and inner diameters

so that the wood could be mounted onto a pen mandrel. I had some spare delrin laying around so made them out of that. after that, it was just regular turning from a blank cut down to the right size.

Thanks for asking.
