Gallidaihia Report post Posted May 23, 2011 So I finally got the time to finish my mecate reins, i made one mistake that i found after the fact but i don't think its to noticeable. And then I started on a pair of split reins. I am going to make another pair of the slit reins in black and then I am going to try my hand at making a headstall for one of my moms horse. Let me know what you think and what I need to improve on! these are my first 2 braiding projects ever. -Bri
dbusarow Report post Posted May 23, 2011 I am going to make another pair of the slit reins in black and then I am going to try my hand at making a headstall for one of my moms horse. So you are the young one in the picture, huh? Pretty amazing work for one so young Just kidding. They look really nice. Now you need to repeat using rawhide or leather! Even in paracord I'd be proud to use either set and so would my girls. Dan

MarkB Report post Posted May 24, 2011 HI They all look very nice. there is only one thing I see and that is this, would not use a knot in both ends of a mecate. I use them all the time here at the ranch on all my snaffle bits and hackamores. I like a small loop around a narrow popper at one end and a knot at the other end. the reason is that if you get bucked off the loop end will come out of your belt easier. I hope this make sense Mark.
megabit Report post Posted May 24, 2011 Nice job on your first project! I'd tend to agree on putting a popper on one end of the mecate.
