craig h Report post Posted May 29, 2011 I am an old newbie and would like to make some barrettes for my gran daughters. I was reading an article and it called for conchos with Chicago screw backs....what is a Chicago screw back? If you can lead me to any articles or patterns for making barrettes...it would be most useful. Thank You...
Phatdaddy Report post Posted May 29, 2011 This will give you the idea of what they are: http://www.tandyleatherfactory.ca/search/searchresults/7400-241.aspx They are available in many other shapes and sizes. Tandy Leather Factory also sells a barrette kit like these: http://www.tandyleatherfactory.ca/search/searchresults/4232-00.aspx
Ladykahu Report post Posted May 29, 2011 As someone with long hair who uses hair clips daily... If you use a chicago screw, make sure you put a lining over it! otherwise hair WILL get underneath it and caught no matter how hard you tighten it down. I have a few brought hair clips I love the look of, but don't wear because I always end up pulling my hair out when taking them off as it gets caught in them. Ladykahu Report post Posted May 30, 2011 I think chicago screws are you best bet for concho attaching, a rivet would be worse. I was thinking about it last night and wondered if maybe slightly indenting them would work. I was thinking of a stitching groove where the edge of the concho screw sits might make it so there wasn't anywhere to catch. If it was me, I would just add a really thin under 1mm lining (probably suede) though. Natalie
