Members sewingsailor Posted June 23, 2011 Members Report Posted June 23, 2011 There is a Pfaff 118 industrial zigzag that is being offered to me for a great price. I have, however, been unable to find out very much about the machine; I know it is a semi self oiler, has reverse, and comes with table, light and motor. What I don't know, however, is what weight thread it can handle. I saw a youtube video of one sewing on leather but it wasn't particularly heavy duty so I am still uncertain. Does anyone have one of these machines or know if it can handle heavier thread weight? I would like to use the machine to sew sails as well as purses, and some leather jackets. Any info would be appreciated! Quote
CowboyBob Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 I would never sell one to someone wanting to sew leather. Bob Quote
Members sandyt Posted July 30, 2011 Members Report Posted July 30, 2011 Hi, I have had one. Didn't like it. Not suitable for leather. Great for clothing and such. Ik think its semi industrial? But it has a big clearance underneath the foot. I think it was 9 mm. That's more than other machines in this cattegory. Sandy. Quote
Moderator Wizcrafts Posted July 30, 2011 Moderator Report Posted July 30, 2011 I had one also. It was very quiet in operation and sewed a reasonably wide stitch, but not as wide as the Singer 20U zig-zag machine. Do not attempt to sew anything like belt leather with that machine! You will break needles. It sews okay with #69 bonded nylon thread. I used it for freehand embroidery on denim and nylon vests, and for hemming cloth garments. Quote
