withsilverbells Report post Posted June 24, 2011 I am hoping that I can get some advice and suggestions on what to try to correct the stitching on my machine. I am a total greenhorn and all I know for sure is that the stitches on the bottom are loose and tangly, while the stitches on top are neat and even. I am using a Consew 206RB-5. What can I adjust or do that might fix this problem? This is what the bottom stitching looks like
albane Report post Posted June 24, 2011 looks like you may not have the bobbin threaded under the spring in the bobbin case. Check out page six http://consew.marginspluslive.com/images/products/pdf4/206rb5instr.pdf I hope this helps this helps.

This is what the bottom stitching looks like Try to open both plates and peep under neath the needle when u turn around ur handwheel....the hook should come around just when the needle window is getting real close ( 1/16 or so...) if this works, check ur hook, is it smooth no burrs....change needle and try again, make sure u have fed the bobbin thread against the turn of the shuttle....also make sure as mentioned....the bobbin thread comes into the little slot of your bobbin holder and then underneath the shuttle wing....out the plate opening... let us know....and please copy this thread to "sewing machines"....there are tons of guys on this forum that can help u out!!! stanly Report post Posted June 24, 2011 Suggest that maybe u could check the threading through the top tensioner(s) and/or put up a pic for us. I'm Very amateur, but hav always heard loose bottom loops - look at top tension.
Wizcrafts Report post Posted June 24, 2011 The problem is caused by either too much bobbin tension, or too little top tension. The bobbin thread should have a modicum of tension, so the thread can be pulled out smoothly, with some back pressure. Then, balance the top tension, via the top tension knob, over the coil spring. Follow the top thread path, from the top of the spool, to any post holes on top of the machine, to the top tension disks, out the disk, to the thread check spring assembly, then to the take-up lever, and on down through the guides to the left side of the needle. The thread must feed from left to right on most industrial sewing machines. The recess in the eye of the needle faces right.

longtooth Report post Posted June 24, 2011 Thank you all so much!! I can't wait to tinker around when I get home. Y'all are the best!! I'll let you know what happens! This happens when I put a different color in the machine and I don't make sure that the thread is between the tension plates at the top. I'll bet when you look at the threading you will find this to be the case.
withsilverbells Report post Posted June 25, 2011 (edited) Thanks to all the help from my leatherworking community, we got it fixed! I tried several of the suggestions, and I am not sure exactly what did it but I think the problem may have been bobbin related. I recently got my machine, and haven't been able to do any work on it because of this problem that I didn't know how to fix. So because of all your help, here is my very first machine-stitched leather craft!! (Sorry for the photobooth photos!) I am still using a pulley that's too big, and as a result of that reduced control I had to do some after-the-fact trimming. Otherwise I think it turned out OK. I have been using it all morning on my errands. MANY THANKS to you all!! Edited June 25, 2011 by withsilverbells
