jestermg Report post Posted June 30, 2011 I am a Santa Claus and I have often seen custom boots with scenes carved into them. I am not capable of building boots from the bottom up. Has anyone ever removed boot tops and replaced them? Is it possible? Thanks
Ferg Report post Posted June 30, 2011 Sounds reasonable to me. Think I would try it on an old boot first. Art Report post Posted June 30, 2011 Ho Ho Ho and welcome to the board, Are the boots three piece, like a western boot or are they Wellingtons? Either way it can be done, if they are expensive custom boots, then you should have a pro do it. It may be easier to deconstruct the boots just enough to decorate the tops, but you should take some pictures and then let Paul advise you on what you are up against. You might want to include your skill level also. Art I am a Santa Claus and I have often seen custom boots with scenes carved into them. I am not capable of building boots from the bottom up. jestermg Report post Posted June 30, 2011 Thanks guys. Right now I only wear 2 styles of leather boots. One is the pirate style and I also have a pair of , for a better term, mototcycle style with a side zipper. I was not really thinking of deconstructing any of these, but rather looking for a decent pair of boots that I like the profile of around the toes and then macking up some sort of design into the uppers. I have no design at the present. I have seen some custom boots with Christmas trees or reindeers etc etc. I thougth they were cool, and could be added to my vast collection of all things related to Santa suit materials. I really wanted to know if it would be feasible to remove the tops and then sew on something that I could carve and what not...but have no plans to do so burning in my mind. Right now I am busy doing belts and suspenders and bracelets and masks. I am a beginner and I have a long ways to go. I am artisitic which helps when it comes to having an eye for what I want. IT is just a matter of learning the tricks and techniques thanks
Kevin Report post Posted July 1, 2011 The easiest thing would be to aplique stuff onto an existing pair or get a plain pair and do fancy stitching with a patching machine. Kevin
