Rhide Report post Posted July 1, 2011 (edited) My first try at a clock face. (actually my first leather carving) Its 10 1/2" x10 1/2" square and the carved pattern is 8" in diameter. Made from 6/7 oz veg tan and patterned after a Gustav Stickley tray. I haven't completed the dye and finish process yet,so any input is welcome. Please excuse the photo quality, I've never tried to photograph leather before. Maybe I should have put this in the critique section instead. Feel free to move this if it's more appropriate there. Rhide Report post Posted August 28, 2011 Well, I finally got around to finishing this. It didn't turn out quite as good as I had hoped for . No input on the finish, so off I go. Started with Eco Flo Saddle Tan then some Olive Oil. It came out the same color as those red erasers we used to use in school! lost interest for a while. Later covered it with Eco Flo Briar Brown. Better. Threw out all the Eco Flo dyes and bought Fiebings. Much better. Put on a finish of Tan Kote and some antique brass tacks.Put in a Curly Maple case with Purple heart buttons and hung it on the shop wall as a few reminders of what not to do. benlilly1 Report post Posted August 29, 2011 I love Stickley too! Nice for a first try. Sometimes I think dying is trial and error. The more you do the better you'll get. Good job!
Rhide Report post Posted August 29, 2011 Capsterdog and benlilly1, I thank you both for your kind words. For some reason, this little project fought me all the way. It was a good learning experience, for sure.
