Coloring Letters And Other Stamps...

Recommended Posts

I've been asked to make a holster in light brown with stamped letters. The letters need to be colored black. I don't have a steady hand, so using acrylic paint with a brush would likely end up very bad. Dyeing the letters black will look sloppy as the dye will bleed into the light brown.

I've seen a number of great looking lettering and stamps with different colors.

So I ask... "how do I do that!?" :)

Thanks!

I use Tandy's Eco-Flo Hi-Lite Stain Chestnut Tan

I don't use it like the directions say. I flood the carving with the dye. Move it around for a good coverage. Wipe it off with circular motions with a folded paper towel (so it does not removed the black from the lettering). If there are any streaks, I just leave them. Let it dry. Put on a heavy coat of Aussie Conditioner and let that dry. Wipe off the excess. Use a damp paper towel to remove any streaks and the seal with Fiebing's Leather Sheen Acrylic Spray.

Hope that helps.
