Members Saint Posted September 1, 2011 Members Report Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) Hello everyone, I no nothing about braiding and need some help! I am trying to learn how to make a 2 color square braid (whip?) It was made with 2 colors of paracord. 4 strands of each that doubled over a clasp making 8 strands of each color for a total of 16 strands? (I pulled the braid apart in an attempt to learn how to braid it but I failed) The finished braid formed square braid (whip like) Does ANYONE have a clue what I am talking about because obviously I have no idea! If anyone can tell me how to do this braid or even explain better what i am trying to explain I would be VERY grateful! Edited September 1, 2011 by Saint Quote
Members barbiesdude Posted September 1, 2011 Members Report Posted September 1, 2011 Hey Saint, I know a little about braiding paracord. You can arrange the cord in many ways to get alternating color patterns. Basically your braiding will start buy bringing the highest outside strand ( left or right doesn't matter ) bring it around behind to the opposite side, split 4 and bring to the front of the side it came from. It should be your lowest strand on that side now. Then take the highest outside one from the opposite side and do the same, bringing it around behind splitting 4 on the opposite side and back to the front on the side it came from. It should be your new lowest string on that side. Hope this helps, good luck Jamie Hello everyone, I no nothing about braiding and need some help! Members roo4u Posted September 1, 2011 Members Report Posted September 1, 2011 any round braid done without a core will end up square. is the pattern in the picture the one you want to end up with cuz how you set up your strings will determine what pattern you end up with. braiding with 16 is really no harder than 8 same basic skills just more strands to deal with. if you let me know what pattern you want to end up with i will do a short tutorial for you on how to start the 16 strand. YOU ARE MY HERO! The same as the picture would be great!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR WILLINGNESS TO HELP ME! Now my next question is this one is done with Paracord, will I get the same effect with colored leather cord? I think this may be a stupid question but just checking if I have to do anything different? Thanks again! Quote
Members roo4u Posted September 2, 2011 Members Report Posted September 2, 2011 well as far as the patterns go yes of course....i dont know about braiding leather strands without a core....it would kinda depend on what type of leather, how thick the strands are and stuff like that. you can definitely braid rawhide like that and maybe latigo lace, and i have braided suede lace without a core like that for leashes but it didnt hold up very well. of course once you can do the actual braid then you can do it with any material you like. just with any type of lace you must keep the finished side up whereas with paracord it really doesnt matter. i will try to get that posted tomorrow. Members KnotHead Posted September 2, 2011 Members Report Posted September 2, 2011 I am wondering if this is the pattern you're looking to do? Trenza De Doce 12 Strings Trenza De Doce 12 Strings If so the pattern is done with a little bit of a tweak. U2, O1, U1, O2, and on the other side it will be the same thing. B... Sadly yes that was the item that I unbraided... No I did not purchase it but it was bought for me...LOL It was what as know in the biker community as a "Get Back Whip" they were used to slap onto the hood of cars that rode up to close to bikers back in the day. Now they are used more for showing club colors. Quote

Honestly I am not sure it looks like it maybe close but mostly what I want to do is show the two colors (equally) in a pattern the entire lengths. Also I plan (If I learn how?!?) to make these in lengths for about 2-4 feet in length but I want to be able to also have some girth (my life story right there) of upwards of 2 inches? Quote
