Members CustomDoug Posted September 10, 2011 Members Report Posted September 10, 2011 I can find chrome upholstery hides all day long but I want vegetable hide for a couple of upholstery projects I've been wanting to work on. Would need to be in the 2.5 oz or thinner range and preferably pre-dyed. Anyone know of a source or two? Quote
Ambassador Luke Hatley Posted September 10, 2011 Ambassador Report Posted September 10, 2011 Wcikett & Craig will sell you a side of Leather and then will split it to the thickness that you will want. Quote
Members CustomDoug Posted September 10, 2011 Author Members Report Posted September 10, 2011 Yea I thought of that already. But I haven't called them yet 'cause I was hoping that there'd be other options. The reason? Well, besides a limited color selection for upholstery (which isn't really a problem I guess) I figured with W&C I'd be paying a premium, especially with the splitting charge. BTW, which of their leathers would be a good choice for upholstery anyway - english bridle, skirting, harness, etc. I hate to call them just to pose the questions but not actually place an order. Contributing Member ClayB Posted September 11, 2011 Contributing Member Report Posted September 11, 2011 Tandy carries veg tanned upholstery hides. I'm not sure what weight, but it'd be close to that. They don't come pre-dyed, only natural. I tried tooling on a sample of it and it took impressions well. I don't think you'd want to use a swivel knife on it though, or at least you'd have to have a really light touch. Quote
Members CustomDoug Posted September 11, 2011 Author Members Report Posted September 11, 2011 $9.99 per sq ft ?? ouch, maybe I should become a tandy club member after all? http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/search/searchresults/9200-00.aspx Quote
