particle Report post Posted October 17, 2011 Okay - I spent most of my lunch break trying to track down the best place to buy my next 1 lb cones of thread. I originally ordered my thread from Tippmann (277 Anefil Bonded Nylon American Efird), but need to place a new order and would like the following 3 or 4 colors : White Natural Red (in two of the following American & Efird or similar manufacturer's colors) Light Copper Chinese Rust Fisherman Red http://www.amefird.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Americas_Color_Palette_Download_7-2011.pdf I'm thinking with my reds, I'd like to have a deeper/darker red (Chinese Rust or Fisherman Red), and perhaps an orange'ish red (Light Copper). I'm finding most of the sources that sell thread only carry one or two colors (black, white, brown). Weaver sells "Red" and "Henna" in 277, but only "Sand" instead of "Tan" (which graphically appears much closer to my current spool of "Natural" from Tippmann). Granted, I've always thought the "Natural" and "White" from Tippmann were very close once it's on the leather, so I wouldn't be opposed to buying "Sand" from Weaver. http://www.leathersupply.com/downloads/catalog/SewingMachines&Such.pdf (last page) Anyway, I'm looking for a "one stop shop". Any ideas? I'm open to another manufacturer if that will help. I admittedly know very little about thread - I will be using it strictly for holsters and belts in my Tippmann Boss. If there is another brand I should be looking at, I'm open to it. My Mini Cooper's owner's manual is stored in a black leather pouch. It has an orange'ish red thread - I love the color combination. Here is a crappy photo of one I found on the web. It looks much more red in this photo - in real life, it's more orange.

particle Report post Posted October 17, 2011 Thanks - I came across their site over the weekend, but at the time was looking for something with more "red". I see they have Chinese Rust, though only a small spool of Natural. Getting closer...

particle Report post Posted October 17, 2011 Thanks - I gave them a call. A little peculiar... I called to ask if their entire color selection is available in 277 thread, but they're going to have to call back to let me know if "they" have it, referring to some outside source they get their thread from. I never imagined buying thread would be such an ordeal...

AttilaOz Report post Posted November 29, 2011 Did you have any luck with this? I'm also looking for some nicely coloured 277 thread at the moment and keep stumbling on the same sites. And there's no local store stocking anything around here. It can't be that hard?!
Anne Bonnys Locker Report post Posted November 29, 2011 Sewing Tread Specialists offer a range of colours in High Tenacity Polyester. They can get a wide range but it needs to be ordered 5 cones at a time. Did you have any luck with this? I'm also looking for some nicely coloured 277 thread at the moment and keep stumbling on the same sites. And there's no local store stocking anything around here. It can't be that hard?! Wizcrafts Report post Posted November 29, 2011 Try CanSew, in Montreal. They have various sizes and colors (colours in Canadian) in size 277 (T270). Most recently, US dealers were able to buy and sell Linhanyl branded nylon thread, from Brazil. Sadly, the US importer apparently stopped stocking it. I don't know all of the details, but Linhanyl is hard to get if you run out. Hopefully, someone else will import their thread, which was available in numerous colors. One could approach thread manufactures based in the USA, such as Coats. They have a minimum order requirement.

And there's no local store stocking anything around here. It can't be that hard?! I ended up buying 277 thread from Weaver. I ordered Henna to try instead of brown - haven't gotten to use it yet, but the color looks nice. The Brown I have (from Tippmann) is so dark, it might as well be Black!! For Natural (that I bought from Tippmann), I ended up ordering Sand (Tan isn't available in 277 from Weaver). I think it's a little darker than the Natural I was using from Tippmann, but I actually like the Sand better. The Natural was so light, I couldn't really tell a difference between it and White once it was stitched on a holster and the holster had been oiled. One of these days I'd like to order Orange, but of course it's not offered in 277!! So, the next best thing is Red.

Anne Bonnys Locker Report post Posted December 1, 2011 While manufacturers may list a colour in their catalogue it does not mean that they actually stock it in every size. There is always a minimum order quantity before they can justify production. I can get you virtually any colour you want in Bonded poly, bonded nylon or high tenacity poly but I have to order 25kg of the one size in that colour so I could not justify it unless you were going to take at least half in one go. philippe Report post Posted December 4, 2011 The thread exchange was mentioned, but they have a very limited color selection. Mostly earth tones. I had the same problem finding colored 277 thread in bonded Nylon a while ago. As Linhanyl is now not available (although I contacted their Brazil office and it can be imported privately by the half ton) I went throught many suppliers and the only one I could find with the color and composition I wanted was Weaver. Their thread is just as good as the Linhanyl I use (in white) and they had the widest color selection available. The Weaver thread is slightly "stiffer" though so that may lead to earlier sun degradation than it will with the Linhanyl (in the application of outdoor products such as motorcycle seats.) but I don't know yet as I have had no complaints from customers. Hope this helps.
Handstitched Report post Posted July 12, 2013 G'Day I was going to ask where can I get 277 threads.... cheaper than what I'm paying here in Australia, as I'm getting a little peeved at paying around $87 (Australian) + postage ( totaling around $ 100+) for a 2000mtr spool of 277/M10 , and that price is supposed to be "wholesale". Its also hard to find colours other than natural, black white etc. in 277. Needless to say, there are very few industrial sewing machine specialists and thread wholesalers in Western Australia , mostly in the east. Then after a search on here, I found The Thread Exchange. And surely, even with freight, getting my threads from the States much be cheaper than what I'm paying here in Oz . I also discovered Weaver's they have a selection of threads too, and now have a customer number and hope to do business with them soon. When in business, a little saving is better than none.
