Members TexasJack Posted October 19, 2011 Members Report Posted October 19, 2011 I suggest you do a search on here and see what you like. I did a quick one and got a couple of good examples (that happen to be outside): Will Ghormley's Hand of God Rig - page 4 Chuck Burrows - Old West Rigs My 2 cents (and compared to artists like Ghormley and Burrows my opinion would be worth about 2 cents vs. the national debt), doing a good job on the cartridge loops will be more important than whether you sew on the outside or weave it through. Members Dwight Posted October 19, 2011 Members Report Posted October 19, 2011 I am not a "Western Historian" but I have been led to believe that most gun belts of the old west were not lined. Many had sewn loops which of course would be on the outside of the belt. Many others used a system where a slot was made, . . . the loop came up through the slot, then back down through the same hole. All my gunbelts are made this way, . . . lined or unlined doesn't make any difference. I use a 3/4 inch long bag punch, . . . 5/6 oz leather, . . . 7/8 inch wide, . . . wet it, pull it through, form it, let it dry, dye & finish it, . . . have not had any customer complaints yet. Here's a couple of examples. The hog leg is lined, the other is a folded, rough out. May God bless, Dwight Quote If you can breathe, . . . thank God. If you can read, . . . thank a teacher. May God bless, Dwight FWIW from the grumpy old guy; I do the same as Dwight, with the same weight of leather, and 3/4" width on the leather loops. Almost all of my western gunbelts are lined. (I don't think an 8th of an inch makes much difference in the loop width, and it's a hell of a lot easier for my old eyes to line up on my strap cutter.)
