What is a good braid or weave to use for covering a meta ring? Also, what size lace works best? I'm thinking about the 1 1/2" to 2" size rings used as hobble carriers on saddles.

WADDY, I HAVE USED THE 3/32 CALIF LACE AND DID A DOUBLE CORDIVAN STICH......THE NARROW LACE WILL LAY BETTER.

Many thanks Luke. I realize this is a pretty elementary question for you braiders, it is just something I have not had a call for until now.

Waddy,

If you have Bruce Grants books, he calls it the spanish edge lacing of two loops. Its pretty easy to do. Just keep pushing the lace together to get better coverage. This is what most of the rings are covered with. 3/32 rawhide works really good. Cut your string long you don't want to run out.

Good luck,

Thanks CW and Greg. It always seems to be the little things that end up making the difference. I do have the Grant books and had looked at that. Thanks for reinforcing that it is a good way to do it. I will not buy chrome plated hardware if I can help it, I spent too many years using stuff with the plating peeling off and leaving sharp edges and rust. Thanks again.

Hi Waddy!

If you decide to go ahead with Grants Spanish double or triple loop I would love to see the result. Gonna try one of them but can't decide wich since the finished buckle looks the same in his drawings.

I don't need to do it right away but just thought it looked like fun to try so don't rush anything on my behalf.
