sideshowelvis Report post Posted June 17, 2008 ive made a few seats, and ive got lucky on all of them,im trying to do a seat with a "full piecs of leather on the bottom too. anyway,im lacing it up and i notice that its pulling to one side and trowing my tooling pattern way to the left. and also,i got to the last few holes and i was off , three on the top four on the bottom,i made sure to count them to before i started. im pulling my hair out because this is an important seat and im freakin out because now i have to start over, im not sure how much i need to overlap on the top "and bottom" to make it all work out.does anybody have a thread for seats? ive seen a copule but they are not very informable. thanks for any help, i will be offline until 2morw nite, but ill check back thanks chris

TomSwede Report post Posted June 18, 2008 One thing that is to be considered more of an aid is to tie a piece of string to every 15th hole or so and be sure to keep em matched. Before lacing. I'm sure you get better hands on tips from more experienced. Tom

David Report post Posted June 18, 2008 I tie down my seat tops also, but a lot closer than Tom....I go about every 3 holes or so. You have to be a bit careful how you do the tie downs too. I put my first one in at the front, my second one in at the back, third one on the left side (at the lowest part of the seat contour) fourth one on the right side (also at the lowest point) Then I add the rest. One or two in front, then one or two in the back.....etc. until the entire top is held down. Then start your lacing. Dave

The competition is just to darn high with chaps like David here at the board;-) Nah, it's just that the fishing rod tubes took most my time this spring and they are just one looooong basketweave lace/seam and 15:th hole is okay for that. Gibbsleatherworks Report post Posted August 8, 2008 (edited) A little late but I thought I would add that I do the same thing with small zip ties. That way you can tighten slowely as you go. It might even help you might find a problem before you waste time lacing. I also like to start at the center of the back with two needles going the oposite direction. Then I lace a few inches at a time going from one side to the other. Edited August 8, 2008 by Gibbsleatherworks
shirleyz Report post Posted August 9, 2008 I learned that technique from David. I use pipe cleaners cut in quarters and just twist them. I sometimes use a spray adhesive too, to keep the tooled piece where I want it. Just a small quick spray in the center of the leather. Be careful though, coz once its in place it will rip your foam pulling it apart. ShirleyZ
