Members malabar Posted January 12, 2012 Members Report Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) I picked this up with some stingray down at a shop in Miami. The proprietor said he thought it was shark, but it doesn't look like any shark I've seen. There are no ridges, just fine scales. And if it is shark, it's a real small one. And it is VERY thin, maybe one millimeter. Is it a small shark like a dogfish or a lizard? Or maybe something extraterrestrial <g>? tk Edited January 12, 2012 by malabar Quote

But.... if you extrapolate by looking at the shape... you can almost imagine a fish. In the upper right of the photo of the skin, it looks like the area around the gills. Imagine the leather formed into a tubular shape then imagine the head and dorsal fin being removed. I think your vendor may be right. There are many species of shark, so who knows for sure. *** Oh ho!!.. Lookie here.... it is probably Shark belly.
