KAYAK45 Report post Posted February 4, 2012 What kind of template?... or how else to sew a loop stitch in a belt and get a uniform pattern.? How do you do it? Ok, maybe a better explanation of what I'm looking for than "loop stitch". Sometimes called a "gunfighter stitch" or "fish loop". Often just loops in the center of the belt, one after another. Scrunched together the loops form a fish tail. Spread out the loops have a diamond pattern between the loops. Yes I could use a coffee cup or saucer to form the loops, one belt at a time. BUT, I want to do this on say...40 belts. Whats a good way to have a pattern and transfer the sew lines, to sew on a machine? Your input really appreciated! Kevin PS: I know the answer will be simple. I just cannot think of it.
Rayban Report post Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) I mostly hear/see it referred to as a "fancy" stitch...here's how I do it....get you one of these thingys, I think it's called a protractor....lay out the stitch lines on a damp belt blank using the sharp end of a modeling tool. I did it on paper to show you...1-1/2" belt......the dotted lines are the main stitch lines....very lightly scribe another about 1/16" parallel to it.....then start scribing the "fancy" stitch line with the protractor. Pictures tell the story.....I hope> Edited February 4, 2012 by Rayban

KAYAK45 Report post Posted February 4, 2012 That's exactly what I want. Do you redo that on each piece of leather or do you have a template? I can draw each one as you describe. And your work looks fantastic! Looking for a template idea. Kevin

What is the weight of the leather and what did you sew it with? Einar Thanks Einar, I used 277, bonded nylon thread with #25 needle on those belts, but lately I've been using 207 with #24, and I'm liking the results/look better. I get my thread from a couple different sources, Toledo Industrial Sewing Machine if what I need is available, and The Thread Exchange. I'm a happy owner of a Cowboy 3500....thanks for asking.
