Members digdug18 Posted March 26, 2012 Members Report Posted March 26, 2012 Obviously Tandy touts their Eco-Flo, and honestly I don't really know what else is out there. What does everyone else use, what is the best stain? What do the commercial manufacturers use? What lasts the longest, also what is the cheapest bare bones stain? Quote
Members Tina Posted March 26, 2012 Members Report Posted March 26, 2012 I Love my Angelus spirit dyes (http://turtlefeathers.net/text/angelus/dye.html) My guess is that the second alternative here will be people that uses Fiebings prof. oil dye. Quote

FWIW, I use Fiebing's Pro Oil dyes for the most part, and a few of their Leather dyes --- except for black. For that I use vinegaroon, which you must make yourself. The dyes I dilute 50/50 (or more) with denatured alcohol. Mike Edited March 26, 2012 by katsass Quote
Members Sylvia Posted March 26, 2012 Members Report Posted March 26, 2012 I like Angelus too for all dyes EXCEPT Black. I've had the worst time with it, even diluted. I've recently tried the Fiebings Prof Oil Dye in Black and that worked better but I still had to buff like crazy and be careful to not rub too hard. So I am brewing some Vinegaroon. I get my Angelus 5 4oz bottles at a time via http://www.dharmatrading.com. (if you are a first time buyer there, get your free gift, too) For some things I like the Eco Flo, fine. and I've been dieing to give the new Pro Water Stain a try. S Quote

Members digdug18 Posted March 26, 2012 Author Members Report Posted March 26, 2012 Do you have a recipe for the Vinegaroon? Does Vinegaroon only cover in black or can other colors be made? Does black just not cover well, or why does everyone have a problem with black? Quote
