Members sharpshooter81 Posted May 9, 2012 Members Report Posted May 9, 2012 A lady contacted me today and wanted to know if she brought her horse bridle to me, if I would stamp the horses name in the bridle.....No trouble to do it of course, just wondering if I can stamp lettering on something that has already been dyed?? She said it was a med brown oil finish. Any imput is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!! Quote
Ambassador Luke Hatley Posted May 9, 2012 Ambassador Report Posted May 9, 2012 The oiled leather is not going to take the impression like Veg tan leather will. Also if you try to put letters in the old oiled leather there is a Great chance that you could cut thru the leather. The only way i would do it is to stamp the horse name on new leather then sew the piece of leather onto the bridle. Quote
Members Sylvia Posted May 9, 2012 Members Report Posted May 9, 2012 You might be able to brand the letters in with a wood burning tool or a soldering iron. Quote
Members sharpshooter81 Posted May 9, 2012 Author Members Report Posted May 9, 2012 I like the idea of stitching a name patch on the bridle....I'm fairly new to this leather working stuff, I didn't think of that!!! LOL Thanks alot guys!! Quote
Members St8LineGunsmith Posted October 6, 2012 Members Report Posted October 6, 2012 Ya once leather is dyed it don't take stamping/tooling. you can replace the existing bridle strap with a new part with the desired stamping/tooling. making new bridle strapping for an old bit is pretty common just use the old parts as templates and use the existing hardware. Members spooky Posted October 6, 2012 Members Report Posted October 6, 2012 Or perhaps you could talk her into having a brass name plate riveted on, which can then be engraved.... http://www.leffleronline.com.au/webstore/images/larger/HEACOLPLA112.jpg Quote
