I had a thread here about the singer 108W I just got, needing any info on it but it's gone. I couldn't get in all of yesterday. Kept getting an error/failed notice.

Does anyone know anything about these machines? Thankyou.

Hi Noah,

Sorry, you got lost in the crash. Which 108? they made then in flat bed (W2) and cylinder arm (W20). The W20 and W21s were a lot like the 153s except they had the "vibrating" foot instead of the walking foot system of the 153W103s. The 108 were used primarily for doing bindings and shoe uppers, some can be found with the binder mechanism still attached. The dial on the handwheel is for adjusting stitch length, that throws some folks. I'm pretty sure it uses the 135X1 needle system and can use needles up to 21 or 22 and about 92 or 138 thread max, more on the smaller side. A nice machine, but lacks a lot of the "extras" of the 153W103s and 104s.

Sorry art. I didn't see that you had replied here. On the tag on this it is stamped 108WSV37 so possibly 108W37? I was told this is like the 108U, a newer version of this?

I got sick again after the crash and didn't get back here. So haven't done anything about even getting this going. I still need to get a motor, decide what belt goes with it, etc. It has a tiny belt area. How will I work it in conjubtion with the wheel on the motor? I'm abit new to having to find this all myself. I normally buy the machine with everything with them. Here it is.

Not having much luck finding information on the 108 series of Singers. If these don't have the walking foot setup, can they still be used for wallets and belts? Can they be converted to a walking foot?

No. A walking foot, or spring loaded jump foot requires a special mechanism, attached to the back of the body, driven by cams and cranks inside.

However, if your machine has a flat foot, you can convert it into a roller foot machine, which works well on wallets and leather garments..
