I am wanting to make an accordian style shifter boot for my hot rod. Anyone done this before or have any ideas on where to possibly find a pattern?

I have a rubber one now but it is molded to the shape.....

Seems to me like it wouldn't be to hard to make a pattern out of a file folder. Measure and see how big the bottom needs to be and how tall you want it. Cut that out and draw lines where you want it fold and fold the across part and see how it fits.

If it fits the way you want cut a piece of 4 or 5 ounce leather and gouge the across lines see how it fits and if it fits to suit you sew it up.

Thumbs up on Dirtclods method.

Keep in mind your accordion folds are going to take some extra material. So you'll need to allow for extra height.

What about trying something just a little different? Cut a number of rings (or ovals or rectangles) about 3 to 4" across with a hole about 1.5" in the middle. Sew alternating outside and inside layers to make an accordion. Flip alternate pieces so the grain side shows on the outside, flesh side hidden inside. You can make any number of layers, shift the size from large at the floor boards, to smaller at the top against the stick. Could start with rectangular at the bottom, to smaller and round at the top. Burnish all the outside edges, dye what ever color and show it off. Might start a new fad!
