Members Sixer Posted July 14, 2012 Members Report Posted July 14, 2012 Maybe I'm missing something here... but what is the best way to sew a metal clip onto a holster using a sewing machine? The left presser foot doesn't allow room to sew close enough to the clip. The right presser foot just falls off of the leather that I'm sewing...so the needle doesn't move forward. Is there a certain attachment that I should be using... or different method?? This should probably be in the "Sewing Leather" forum, but I guess it still involves a holster Hopefully this makes sense. See the pics for illustration. Quote
Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted July 14, 2012 Contributing Member Report Posted July 14, 2012 Sew the 'pocket' for the clip, then install the clip. You use needle nose pliers to place the rivet, and can slide something like a putty knife behind the clip to act as the anvil while you set the rivet. Quote

Members Rayban Posted July 14, 2012 Members Report Posted July 14, 2012 I've learned (the hard way of course) to give myself just enough room around the clip for the foot....I like to mount the clip to the pocket first, because I then glue it to the holster before I stitch it. Quote

For the long term, . . . this I believe is the better way, . . . just happens to be the way I do mine also. I ride my Boss's foot right up next to the clip, . . . and they turn out good and solid. This is EXACTLY what I needed to see. The presser foot is the key... the ones I have either fit to right or left, which is why I don't have the room I need. What kind of foot is that... and does anyone know where I can find one for a Cobra Class 4 ??? Thanks! Quote

I don't know what it's called, but as I understand it, the Cowboy ( which is what I have )and Cobra parts are interchangeable, so maybe someone more knowledgeable than me ( shouldn't take long) will chime in. mlapaglia Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 I use a center presser foot for the Boss. For me it works best. Its only a little bit wider than the needle and sits on both sides. I can get within a 1/16" to an edge with it. Works well for me.It doesnt hold the leather real well but its great when nothing else fits. Quote
