daleoffshore Report post Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) I just started using some of My Snaps from Perfect Fit aka Dot nickle plated brass. I learned something: I will be buying better tools.I have the pliers type from JoAnn Fabric and to crimp dots I have to use my big channel locks to assist. Question: Has anyone used the visegrip type? and how well do you like it? Do I need to buy the 100.00+ tool . I hav'nt even tried the stainless steel yet. gringobill Report post Posted July 15, 2012 I've got the Hoover Press-n-Snap, it is a Vise Grip type and it has made all the difference in the world in setting line 24 snaps for me. I was using the drive punch type setters before and wasted a lot of snaps. I don't know if you are aware but those snaps come in at least 3 different lengths, I've been getting mine from Ohio Travel Bag. Their snaps are higher quality. Having the different lengths make a ton of difference. Prior to getting the different lengths, I was having to cut the shafts down using my Dremel with a cut off wheel, which is time consuming and a pain in the trailer hitch! daleoffshore Report post Posted July 16, 2012 I use snaps on 4-5 oz leather[ well maybe 6],and bought stainless for boat cabins[soft fabric type] as I'm tired of cheap snaps pulling apart. I got 3/16 in,and I'm aware of longer. Also if you order online you can get: Light, normal, heavy, and extra heavy sockets. for different level of hold. Even the Durable Dot Snaps are far and above the cheap[well made cheap] ones you buy in the 4pkg. Thanks for letting me know about tools.
Boriqua Report post Posted June 12, 2013 Just received my hoover press and snap. Worth every penny. I had a little trouble justifying the expense but it is just awesome.
