I have two rolls of 1964 Tandy leather that were still sealed in the Tandy shipping paper. Of course is is as stiff as a board I was wonder if there was any way of bringing this back to life so I can tool on it. Did they even Veg Tan back then?

TIA,

Chis

Likely better to tool than most of what they sell now. I would rub some Lexol on it and try tooling it.

That was probably US tanned leather. I would try Montana Pitchblend, Pecard's, or another good oil and see how fast it takes it up and maybe even a second coat if it needs it. Let is stand a day or two afterwards so the oil can dustribute. It should tool well, but don't get used to it, you won't find much like it anymore.
