LeeAnne3 Report post Posted August 2, 2012 I was given some old tools and patterns and in the bunch I found some goldmark 23k foil strips. Has anyone used these on leather? How do you finish over it so it doesn't rub off? What else can I do with them? I have recently started making mounted shooting holsters so I figured I could use them to accent tooling on them. Any information would be great! Thanks
Sylvia Report post Posted August 2, 2012 hi LeeAnne. did your old tools come with a heat embosser? Back in the 50s or so they used a heat embosser to put gold on leather. The thing looks like a little press with an electric cord.
Kevin Report post Posted August 3, 2012 Sylvia is right, but maybe you got some book binding tools that can be heated and used with the foil. Kevin
Northmount Report post Posted August 3, 2012 Wood burners work with some of these foils as well. Sign your name! CTG
WinterBear Report post Posted August 3, 2012 Is the back of the foil glued? I'm not certain as far as heat embossing foil goes, but I thought either the foil or the area to be foiled had to be treated with a "heat activated" glue to get the foil to grab a hold on the hide. LeeAnne3 Report post Posted August 3, 2012 uote name='Sylvia' timestamp='1343939762' post='259008'] hi LeeAnne. did your old tools come with a heat embosser? There were some nice old craft tools my favorite is a turnback tol 947, and eight old native symbol tools that are very different than what I can find at tandy. now Thanks for your quick response.
