Members Box Alarm Leather Posted August 5, 2012 Members Report Posted August 5, 2012 I am looking for a leather supplier that has veg tan leather in 3-4 oz in all primary colors. Thanks, Andrew Quote
Members Glendon Posted August 5, 2012 Members Report Posted August 5, 2012 Pre-dyed veg tan is somewhat rare in the best situations. In extreme colors, you're going to have a hunt on your hands. There just aren't that many places that do it. Black, brown, and burgundy are easy enough to scare up, but blues, greens, and yellows are going to be tricky. I assume you want veg tan because you plan to stamp it? Quote
Members Box Alarm Leather Posted August 5, 2012 Author Members Report Posted August 5, 2012 That's what I'm finding out! No... actually we now use veg-tan for our products made for firefighting and it holds up really well in extremes. We are looking for colored leather that we don't have to paint and that can receive hot foil stamping/debossing. I suppose the next question is what colored leathers are stout and durable enough to handle firefighting extremes? Chrome tanned? And where can I find the selection of colors we are looking for? We really appreciate taking the time to answer our question! Pre-dyed veg tan is somewhat rare in the best situations. In extreme colors, you're going to have a hunt on your hands. Members DoubleC Posted August 5, 2012 Members Report Posted August 5, 2012 SLC at the top of these pages have chrome tanned in colors and you can call or ask Kevin at the site and he'll tell you just exactly what you need. That's where I get most of my supplies. Cheryl Quote
Members Sylvia Posted August 5, 2012 Members Report Posted August 5, 2012 I would not recommend chrome tanned for your application. I made the mistake of branding (using a wood burner) on some and was so sick afterward from the fumes. For days actually. If you really want to do this get some dyes in pretty large quantities and Vat dye Quote
