carr52 Report post Posted July 29, 2008 Thought I'd try my hand at making a rope. Got no use for one just wanted to try it. And besides I like braiding. It's about 16 ft. long. I guess you could use it to rope a goat or something slow. Well anyways, here it is. Tom
rdb Report post Posted July 29, 2008 Man! Thats an awful lot of work! They look great! A whip that long would go for $800! When I lived in Morocco, I learned how to crush palm leaves and hand make rope and twine. It was tedious, but you didn't have to think to hard. In my home town of Salem Ma., I learned how to twist rope into hawsers and such...but Braiding all that leaves me awesomized.

carr52 Report post Posted July 30, 2008 Tom,Excellent! How long are teh strands before you start when you make a 16' rope? ArtS They are roughly 12 feet. have to splice as you go. I just skive the ends and use leather weld. Thats some pretty strong stuff. Plus after they are braided over top of each other it's nice and strong. I stagger the splices about 10 or 12 inchs apart.
