Contributing Member Regis Posted January 18, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted January 18, 2008 So what are some of the things that you carve on non-western holsters like molded/formed holsters for automatics. Traditional floral designs seem more suited to revolvers. Geometrics, figures, etc??? What are you carving/tooling on custom holsters? Ideas? Quote
Ambassador Luke Hatley Posted January 18, 2008 Ambassador Report Posted January 18, 2008 (edited) HEY REGIS DESIGNER HOLSTERS REALLY LOOK GOOD IN THE SHOWCASE FOR THE SEMI AUTO ALSO FOR THE RELVOER,AND WESTERN TOOLED LOOKS GREAT AT A S A S S EVENT. A LOT OF CONCEILED HOLSTERS THAT I HAVE MADE,,,,,,,,,BASIC BLACK OR DARK BROWN.. THATS JUST THE WAY ITS BEEN FOR ME. CUSTOMERS SAY THAT THEY DONT WANT TO DRAW ATTENTION. (i'm not going to post any photos) lol... BUT I HAVE DID MY SHARE OF BASKET WEAVE DESIGNS AND JUST NICE BORDER DESIGNS. GO FOR EM.... Edited January 18, 2008 by Luke Hatley Quote
Randyc Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Regis, I may try border stamping on a holster and possibly go from there. I think full blown tooling may work better on a lightly formed verses a wet pressed, fully boned holster. I think a finely tooled pattern may become distorted during the wetting/forming process. I've never tried it so I don't know for sure. I've seen some real nice western and sheridan style tooled holsters displayed with Colt 1911's,Sig Sauers and Browning Highpowers. Randy Quote
Contributing Member Jordan Posted January 18, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted January 18, 2008 (edited) Luke I think your on the right track with real nice border and edge treatments for the auto's, most are worn concealed or semi hidden under jackets etc. except for the basic black duty holsters. I have been real slow to do anymore holsters, must be the weather and feelin poorly lately, but Regis I also am very interested in what others ideas are. Seems to be not alot of room left for carving after stiching, moulding, straps & snaps and such. Edited January 18, 2008 by Jordan Quote
Members K-Man Posted January 18, 2008 Members Report Posted January 18, 2008 (edited) Here are but a few: You might consider putting an exotic skin on the holster. It oftentimes makes for a nice accent/contrast and really dresses the holster up: Those pictured above are all genuine exotic skins - stingray, alligator, shark, ostrich, elephant trunk and anaconda. Members paris3200 Posted January 18, 2008 Members Report Posted January 18, 2008 Very nice it would be hard to pick one out as all are just as nice, Don That's easy. I'll take the the holster that the lawman STI is in WITH the STI. Tucker gun leather does some stamping on his modern holsters. You can checkout his designs at http://rlcompanyusa.stores.yahoo.net/ststav.html. Might give you some ideas to go with Kevin's. Jason Quote

Randyc Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 K-man Tasteful use of exotics on your holsters. How did you keep your eagle in porportion after molding that black pancake holster? Did you stitch your exotic overlays after molding your holsters? Randy Quote
Members K-Man Posted January 18, 2008 Members Report Posted January 18, 2008 those are nice. What is the skin on the pocket holster, the first one with the exotic. That's stingray on the pocket holster. Comes in a variety of colors/prints nowadays - some pretty bizarre in my opinion. Can be a tough skin to work with for some. It's a very durable skin and holds up well to abuse, etc. Quote

Randy I did a lot of hand molding on the eagle holster, along with some press molding. Depending on what you're tooling and where you're placing it with respect to the gun itself, it may take a little bit of "finessing" to make it work. The exotic overlays were stitched on at the time we assembled the holster. Quote
BruceGibson Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Awesome work, and cool combinations Kevin! Quote
