sherlockian100 Report post Posted October 11, 2012 (edited) I bought the "Roper Wallet" from Tandy, as it was missing the thread and needle, therefore on sale for just a few dollars. I didn't want to just do "the kit" with it, so I tried to turn it into a biker style wallet, by adding a closure strap, using a cconcho as a rivet (so it's removable) and a snap on the front of that. I also added a belt chain to that strap. I used black dye, then high lite stain painted on with a small brush, for the red and green. Here are my efforts. Please feel free to comment or offer suggestions for next time, on how I can improve it. biker1 by sherlockian100, on Flickr biker3 by sherlockian100, on Flickr biker2 by sherlockian100, on Flickr Edited October 11, 2012 by sherlockian100
Horrrk Report post Posted October 11, 2012 I used black dye, then high lite stain painted on with a small brush, for the red and green. Hi Sherlockian, I like the look of the wallet, very much indeed.. I've got a couple of quick questions, if you don't mind.. I'm just wondering what dyes you used.? Also, did you black the whole wallet, seal it and then use the high lite colour stains, or do you use the high lite colours straight on top of the black, before sealing? They've come out very well.. I've been looking into the use of straight acrylics to colour features, although I've heard that they're prone to wearing through and I've not really looked into high lite stains at all.. It looks like I may have to Regards Phil
sherlockian100 Report post Posted October 11, 2012 (edited) I did it all with small brushes, I first resisted skull w/ super sheen, then painted on dye, only in its area, then same with stains. I think it was eco flo hi lite stain and feibings black dye (alcohol based I think). I'm in California, its tough to get pro oil dyes, without going out of state. SpookStrickland Report post Posted October 14, 2012 That's great! I love the artwork. I think I'm going to make me a wallet next. I just need to find a good way to hold my ID and credit cards, those biker/trucker wallets don't seem to conducive to holding those types of things. sherlockian100 Report post Posted October 14, 2012 I'm not positive where I saw it on here, but someone contributed a pattern in a thread on here (probably in the patterns section). I have a good pattern for pockets and what not, but I got this "Roper" kit sooo cheap, I bought it, but didn't really like it the way it was, so I changed it up a bit, turning it into a biker type wallet. Thank you for the comment about the artwork. I originally did that for a bicycle seat I made for a friend, ) only stained one color, and thought it might look good on the wallet, with various colors. Thanks I'm going to look for that pattern. It's amazing just how many dang cards, we have to carry in our wallets these days for Memberships and Insurance and club cards and all that stuff, that I'm afraid I'm going to end up with a "man purse" instead of a wallet one day LOL
