Talltales08 Report post Posted October 28, 2012 After tooling for the first time yesturday, I liked the looked of the tooled leather. We were asked to pick a color of dye and we each picked a different one. I chose a light brown but didn't like any of them as much as I did the plain tooled look. Is there away just to go with that look?
benlilly1 Report post Posted October 28, 2012 Sure can....just put a finish on it. Maybe some Atom Wax.
Talltales08 Report post Posted October 28, 2012 I figured there was. It just seemed to me we had went to all that trouble to "purdy up" that square then covered it up at the end...of course, I haven't looked at it since it dried so I maybe changing my toon ...lol
TwinOaks Report post Posted October 28, 2012 There's a lot more to 'finishing' than just slapping some dye on it. Look into 'antiquing', as well as 'block dyeing'. Take a look at some of Peter Main's work to see what can be done (lots of skills required) with dye. http://petermain.com/parent.htm
immiketoo Report post Posted November 7, 2012 Peter Main is amazing. How does he get leather to look so yellow as opposed to russet? Unreal.
