227s are cylinder bed machines. They may be better at sewing bag gussets cause you can get into some tighter spots than with a flatbed. On the other hand, they don't have the wide platform that flat beds do which is really helpful when seeing large flat pieces. Also, a 227 does not have reverse (unless it's a 227R. R for reverse). You would not be able to backtack unless you turn the whole work piece around.

With that said, both are fine for what you're trying to make.

As for what to check out, visually it should be clean with hopefully not too much wear or rust on it. Bring the type of material you plan to sew along with you and try it out. Make sure the stitches are evenly spaced and the tension is even (no knots poking up every few stitches).

Ask the seller if they have any extra presser feet and needles with the machine. If they have a good edge guide, that's even better. Good thing about these machines though is that these parts are pretty cheap. Bear in mind that you will probably want to swap out the clutch motor with a servo and that can cost in the $150 - $200+ range so factor that cost in.

- Make sure the machine you're buying is tested and sewn off. Too many people are selling drop shipping machines without inspecting them, and the customer is left with the headache of setting it up properly.

- Get a Servo motor instead which will give you much better control of the sewing speed

- The 227 would be good for purses and handbags because it is a cylinder machine, but the 206 has reverse. Ideally you want a machine with both.

Andew and Ron, Thank you guys so much! I will check everything that you guys said:

1. clean, no rust.

2. will bring leather to test, see if stitches are evenly spaced.

3. any extra stuff like presser feet and needles with the machine.

I still can't decide which one should get since they are both work on leather stuff...

question:

1. if I don't change to servo motor now for 206 ( can't afford that now, ehhh... ), there is anyway to control speed? can go slow? is presser can control?

2. there are two consew 206rb I found, one is -2, another one i'm not sure is 5 or ..., price is just 50 bucks different. so which one is better? I attatched photos here.

Really really Thank you guys! man, really don't know how to get a right machine without leatherworker, you guys are very nice and great! :)

The difference between a 2 & 5 is the machines in your pics are the stitch length adjuster that the ealrier 206's have I think starting w/#3 they had a newer style that used a knob on the front & reverse was operated by pushing the lever down (which is easier) than up like the machines in the pics.

If you go to my website you can look @ the new Consew 206RB5 & see the difference.
