Aurelie Report post Posted December 7, 2012 Hi guys! Here my 1st try at Axe sheath This is far from a saddle but the "challenge" appealed to me and bottom line : i loved it ! A guy asked me to build for him a sheath for his competition axe (not a fancy one but something cool and that would work easy) i said : ok might be possible ...and here is what came out of it! 1 trouble was the shape of the axe : curved on both side => boggled my mind a bit i wanted something easy to manipulate and sturdy.... decoration really really simple : his initiales made out of Hermann and Oak 12/130z - oiled with olive oil - finished with some skidmore's leather cream now that gave me some ideas : when i see it, i feel like it would not have hurt to work a bit more on the deco but was not for me so i did what was asked .....and i am not close to own an axe since i am enough dangerous with a baseball bat! :D
immiketoo Report post Posted December 7, 2012 That's great. I particularly like the detail of the extra point on the bottom edge. I would have added more tooling to the leather but its simple and effective.

If another "timberman" comes and ask for an axe sheath and if i can "sweat talk" him into full carve it..i will do it Looks good, nice, clean and functional. David to be honest : that was the goal always my goal : 1st : clean and functional when this is ok => i go for the nice looking and the fancy stuff anyone wants on with swarovski strass on it Ahahaha
bluesman1951 Report post Posted December 7, 2012 Very nicely done ! Stitching stands out very sharp and clean . The eye just keeps making laps around the project not a single snag very smooth . I like this a lot ! This will give many years of good service . My compliments !
Aurelie Report post Posted December 7, 2012 worked hard to erase the prints of the presser foot but after wetting, rubbing smoothly...i did it i put a welt between the fold - glued it and then stitched everything with the sewing machine...i hope that won't tear easily i always find wrong things on my jobs but this one (for a 1st one) turned out rather good and bottom line : the harder in leatherworking? => making patterns that works the rest : part luck, part imagination => you can work around almost all troubles this is the way i see things but i really had fun doing that one
Beaverslayer Report post Posted December 7, 2012 Aurelie. Very nice craftsmanship on this, I'm glad you decided to say "Yes I can do that". Now you have another happy customer that is going to tell people about you. Great job.
