Die Cut Flower Necklace

Recommended Posts

There was a discussion a while back about using paper diecutters on leather. I have one of the original Wizard die cutters which are pretty tough and supposed to provide 3000lbs pressure so I thought I would give it a try. I used a Sizzix Tim Holtz tattered floral die and cut the leather damp. The leather cut easily. What impressed me the most was how light weight the pendant is for the size of it.

Wow.

I've been wondering about paper die cutters on leather as well, but sort of assumed it wouldn't work as the ones I have seen seem pretty weak.

May I ask what weight leather you used?

It's about 4 oz. leather that I used. My machine is an old all metal one. I would think that any of the ones that can do thick chipboard or matboard would be able to cut the thinner leathers as they aren't as dense as those products. Also, the die has to be one of the steel rule ones, not the chemically etched ones, as they are not deep enough.
