indypbear Report post Posted January 7, 2008 Hey gang, I need to find a pattern for holding a soda can or bottle that will attach to a belt like a gun holster. Has anyone seen such an animal any where? Any ideas would be appreciated. Indy

Kani Report post Posted January 8, 2008 (edited) Well that's about the neatest thing I've seen in a while, very well done Kani.Ken Ken I didn't make it. I posted it so everyone could see what the bottle holster looked like. It is on the diy site. I am planning on making me one just as soon as I make the pattern. Sorry but this thing is still doing the quote thing. Edited January 8, 2008 by Kani
broncobuster Report post Posted January 8, 2008 hey indy i have that pattern. years ago i use to make quite a few of them. my pattern is similar to the one on the DIY one but mine is a little different. its a little longer and i slot the top for the belt to run through rather than a loop. the ol man still has his ill take a pic of it for ya. if ya like the pattern i can give ya dimensions. Ive been meaning to bring it out again and make a few seeing its been a while and a cycle of new people who havent seen it. might be my new/old hot seller again lol. Kani Report post Posted January 8, 2008 This may sound silly but it looks like to me there is a strap that goes around the leg. does anyone know if it does? I think I would rather have one with a strong clip on it so I could put it on my belt. That way it would be more convent as to taking it on and off. I haven't had time to watch the diy video yet. wolvenstien Report post Posted January 8, 2008 They one that was done on DIY has a leg thong like a Western Holster. But you can make it like you want it.....
Hidemechanic Report post Posted January 8, 2008 I agree with Wolv about the the leg thong. That's the great thing about making things yourself, whatever matterial you use. You can redesign things to fit your need. As to paterns, I hear a lot of people asking for paterns for this or that, I like to encourage them to sit back and look at the item and mentally develope a design on their own. Maybe we could work on a "class' for such a thing. Anyway, I have found that when I was looking for paterns and someone handed me one, it wasn't quite what I needed so I had to modify it to fit my need. Thus, I found it was easier to just make my own pats for things. In my early days I did start out using Al Stoleman's book on case making that helped me develoe the skills for making my own pats. Once you do a few, the basic principles sink in and you can apply them to making most anything you want. Have fun, G Hackett

indypbear Report post Posted January 8, 2008 Thanks to ALL-Wolfie, Kani, Bronco & Hidemech. I couldn't get a picture in my mind of a can/bottle holster but now I do. I agree with the pattern concept. I usually make my own patterns or modify a pattern when I have the idea in my mind. Bronco, if you have the dimensions or would share your pattern that would shorten my production time a lot. This is my e-mail address <front_line42@yahoo.com>. FYI-I usually try to find some flexible material like a 24 pak with the foil coating for my pattern material or go to the X-Ray Dept. of our local hospital for cardboard/plastic dividers from their film boxes. They discard it!! It's good stiffner for notebooks, etc. and the price is right-free.

tjg Report post Posted January 10, 2008 I am definitly going to make one of these. The campfire cowboys are going to love them. I don't think they will do the job on the trail. Indy- great idea for pattern material. I work at a hospital and happen to have friends in Radiology, I sent an email request before I sent this. broncobuster Report post Posted January 10, 2008 Ive got another holder for the trails lol I sell lots of these they pay for my trail riding weekends lol. you can put cans or bottles in it.
tjg Report post Posted January 12, 2008 broncobuster - I have one similar to this on my saddle, I did not make it bought it at a tack store when we were riding in Southern OH. I will see if i can dig my husbands out of the trailer and take a pic. He has a Tucker endurance saddle (no horn) the Amish put together one for him with a strap that has a clip to hook to his rings. I am hoping I can make a few of these to help cover my trail riding trips, or at least the beer for the weekend. Ha ha. Tammy
Drac Report post Posted January 12, 2008 another good place to get stiffeners/pattern material is comic book shops on wednesdays (shipment day). get the cardboard type stuff used as dividers and top protectors in the shipment boxes. shops throw those out (along with the boxes if you need boxes for shipping or storage). I usually just use posterboard for my patterns though. comic shops also have plastic title dividers for sale. those make great stiffeners since they're very durable.
