Decorative Spot Problem, Help!

Recommended Posts

1) first issue is, the spot gets smooshed and odd shaped when I use the little rivet tool to bang them together.what's the trick to get both sides to join and not ruin spot?

2) I screwed up on my breast collar.I put it all together and thought spots would fit through entire later.not the case. Is there such thing as Chicago screw on spots or real small conchos that won't break the bank?

They usually just take a light tap to seat them.

Can you use a longer rivet post from a standard rivet?

There are a variety of longer dome rivets and spots, have a look at Ohio Travel Bag for samples.

Are you using a rivet setter to set spots? They aren't domed up as much as spot setters and will deform them. I start my spots with a hand setter, then finish them off in a press to set the prongs and clinch them.

Yes, there are Chicago screw backed conchos as small as 3/8". I use a lot of them. They are 3/8 Hi-Dome conchos from Hansens - www.hansensilver.com

Problem solved.I took a step back, flipped through a catalog and discovered the domed rivet setters.I was trying to set a domed rivet with a till too flat.also discovered the longer posts on the rivets.

Yesterday was a bad day, but I am better now that I realized I'm just trying to fit a square in a round place, loll.thank you both.great links
