billymac814 Report post Posted February 5, 2013 Does anyone know where I can get long eyelets or grommets to go through about 2 layers of say 9-10 oz leather. They need to to have a small hole, around 3/16- 1/4". It seems every ones I find are all shorter and it also seems the length is somewhat proportional to the hole size in most cases. J Hayes Report post Posted February 8, 2013 Ohiotravelbag.com catalog P212 page 21. 800-800-1941 they have more too. These are solid brass which is nice I think. Jeremy
billymac814 Report post Posted February 8, 2013 Jeremy, I did check with them and somehow missed the long one. Your timing on this was terrible, I just placed an order with OTB today so ill have to spend another 30 bucks to get 4 eyelets. Those should work perfect though, I may have to cut them down a bit but that's no problem. The hole looks small in the picture but it says 3/16", if that's the case it'll be fine. Thank you. Tree Reaper Report post Posted February 8, 2013 Ohio advertises special orders for grommets they don't stock, it wouldn't hurt to ask them about it.
SOB Holsters Report post Posted February 12, 2013 Do you use eyelets that are set with a hammer, or a press? I use .25 eyelets that require the use of a small press and a die for mounting kydex to leather. If you want something that will never let go, these are it. Downfall: Don't screw one up. Serious PITB to get out! Let me know if you need more info.
billymac814 Report post Posted February 12, 2013 I have a press to set eyelets, its a little different than the ones that I see at knifekits .com but I don't see why it wouldn't work for just about any eyelet as I have a bunch of sizes of dies. I'd be ok with the hammer type too. I only need 4 long ones so I definitely am not going to invest in anything expensive to set these. Do you think the eyelets you're talking about would be good through two heavy layers of leather? Say 8-10 oz each. Thanks.
SOB Holsters Report post Posted February 13, 2013 I posted a reply from my "smartphone" earlier, but apparently it didn't come thru. Yes I do believe these will be long enough. I compared it against two layer of 8-9 and there is enough room to curl the other end over and have it grab. Id be glad to mail you some as I have plenty, and they are not my staple eyelets. It will save you the trouble of ordering a large qty and paying shipping. Let me know!
billymac814 Report post Posted February 13, 2013 Sure, if you don't mind, that would be great. I'd take maybe 8 just to be on the safe side in case I mess one or 4 up. I can PayPal you the money for shipping and whatever a couple costs. Thank you!
