Distressed Look

Recommended Posts

I found a couple different "Distressed" look items, that I would like to try and reproduce the look of the item, and cannot figure out exactly how to do that. If some one has an Idea, I would be really apreciative. They look lik they may be two different, but similiar, techniques. Again, any help would be appreciated.

The look like two different techniques to me. The first looks like it was dyed, then an acrylic whitewash put on and kept away from the sewing, and also wiped from that area. The second article looks like it was distressed and antiqued. To get the distressed look you see at the end of the belt you simply roll the leather in on itself tightly and the grain will wrinkle. Then it was painted or dyed the green, a resist put on, and then the dark antique applied and left on the edges, and wiped off some in the middle. I hope this helps. Cheryl

It looks to me the first one was dyed first then a paint applied, allowed to dry and a block of wood with a real fine sandpaper was swiped across the top to make it look aged. I also think the belt was done the same way. Dye first then a paint and lightly sanded off.

This is the way I would do it myself.

You can take the finish off that first one with masking tape.
