Ran Report post Posted February 19, 2013 A Tennessee LEO commissioned me to build the 'black on black' holster (first pic), and the other rig is just something I wanted to build. I'll probably post it for sale on one or more of the pistol forums. When the cop asked me to build his 'all black' holster, I almost wanted to talk him into letting me do 'something' to add some pizzazz. But after finishing it, I must confess that I kinda like the simple monotone. I've made quite a few of these snap-on OWB 1911 holsters, but this is just my third belt build
Steve75 Report post Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) The black on black works well, especially with the stainless on the 1911. The tooling on the reenforcement on the second holster adds a little something extra to set off the dual tone of the second holster. Nice work. c2369zulu Report post Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) Is the back of the second holster tooled too or just the snap straps? I really like the veiner tooling and will use it and the mule foot on a guitar strap I just started. Kind of like whats seen on Will Ghormley's "Hand of God" Rig belt. Also is the whole back the brown color? Great looking stuff, thanks for sharing! Edited February 20, 2013 by c2369zulu

I just simply changed dye colors part way down the back of the straps. Same with the stamping. I consider the back of an OWB holster like this to be the same as the lining of a jacket (in terms of aesthetics, that is). While I don't want it to look like crap, I'm also not nearly as concerned about the look of the backside. I'll even sometimes use a piece of leather back there that I might not use for the front side (e.g., slight blemish, etc.).
