suggestion for G.Hought books

Recommended Posts

hi guys,

please share some advice, i want to purchase set of GH books. What site do you recommend?

How come that most of the sites i found sell around 50$ per book but on one site (http://www.macphersonleather.com/bbbasicsrevised.htm) they ask 35$ per book, kind of strange. I sent email them in the morning and asked a question about the price but no reply so far.

Maybe they are not as greedy as the other retailers.

I don't really know why they have them priced this way - also, this isn't the complete set...you can go directly to Gail's site - www.hought.com...it's an extensive website, with plenty of pix of her work, and the books also sell there...I would advise that you purchase the four books that are in color - starting with the Revised edition of the Basics, thru the 'Romal Reins 1' - there is supposed to be a second book covering romal reins, but I wouldn't know when that will be published. The reason I suggest not going with the complete set of 5 is that the first book was done in B/W - the revised basic edition is in color, all the same material, but just a better book than the very first one. If you just want the whole set, regardless, she has a price for the complete set in 5 and the complete set in 4...even on her site, the price breakdown per book isn't as cheap as on the MacPherson site...exception is they don't have the book on Romals...

She also has supplies, sources for tools, materials, etc...will even sell you a bosal core if you don't want to have to make one up for yourself...personally, I think she gives beginners, etc, a wealth of information on her site, thru instructions, kits, quality materials, proper tools, etc...

thanks for your kind replys so far,

i`ve done some homework on this, and ofcourse found also hought.com site. And somehow i feel buying from there more secure than trust somebody who can sell the same item for half a price. But still, i wonder if there is somebody out there who has bought from macphersonleather.com and can ensure that this is not freud.

I`ll wait for some more replys here before i make decision.

I have no idea of your age but I will say with confidence that Macpherson Leather has been in business longer than you have been alive. I don't buy from them but believe they are also connected with Montana Leathers and Oregon Leather. These companies don't stay in businees for that length of time being shady or dishonest. Greg

good to know.

Here is nothing to do with my age but the fact that i`m on the other side of ocean and may not know these companys.

Thank you for your reply.

I wondered if you were from overseas - in that case, please note that Gail has a different amount that she charges for Foreign sales...that would be the prices ending in 'F' - might be less expense for you to purchase the three books from MacPherson and the single book about Romals from her site...if the money is a big issue...

Oregon, Montana, and MacPherson use the same Catalog.

I expect they are conected.

Have purched from oregon leather Good prices and honest people.

Have found their prices much better than TLF, even with TLF discounts.

thanks everyone,

decided for http://www.ubraidit.com/ beacause i also wanted D.W. Morgans "braiding fine leather" and some laceing needles. And i calculated that if order the books from two different places i have to pay twice for shipping and after all it makes about the same in price.

best regards
