Members Destrier Posted April 10, 2013 Members Report Posted April 10, 2013 I re-covered a scabbard of mine, reusing the wood core and the metal collar and chape. I carved in a Pictish-inspired raven motif with thistle accents, and stitched up the back with artificial sinew. The braids are done with kangaroo - not historically accurate I know, but I wasn't necessarily going for accuracy here. Quote
Members Cyberthrasher Posted April 10, 2013 Members Report Posted April 10, 2013 Hey, guess what!! That lacing don't look "stereotypical cowboy"... Now, you gotta share that lacing technique too Quote
Members Destrier Posted April 11, 2013 Author Members Report Posted April 11, 2013 I got the lacing out of a book - I'm not good at describing things but I'll try. Two strands, do one at a time. Go up two holes (not straight, not up one, up two), skipping none except the first two right at the beginning. When you come back to do the second strand repeat the same pattern of going up two holes skipping none (except the beginning), but weave under-over-under the existing strand, come back and tighten it all up after you're done both strands. Does that make any sense...? Quote
Members Harag Posted April 11, 2013 Members Report Posted April 11, 2013 Which book did you get the lacing out of? Quote

Members Destrier Posted April 12, 2013 Author Members Report Posted April 12, 2013 Which book did you get the lacing out of? I borrowed it from a friend - I thought I still had it kicking around here but I guess I gave it back. I'll try and find out And thank you very much, RavenAus and immiketoo! Quote
Members Valleee Posted April 12, 2013 Members Report Posted April 12, 2013 I knew this looked familiar and then I reread your username and it clicked that I saw this on fb. Apparently, you and I haunt the same forums (HF and this one). How random lol. Anyways, beautiful work, I hope I can one day find some creativity to take a stab at carving. Quote
Members ReneeCanady Posted April 12, 2013 Members Report Posted April 12, 2013 As it seems to be my newest line to you......DAMN WOMAN! LOL That is awesome! I love the color blend as well. Quote
Members Destrier Posted April 12, 2013 Author Members Report Posted April 12, 2013 Thanks Valleee - of course I'm totally curious who you are now...! Haha thank you Renee! I'm still trying to decide what to do for the belt. Since it's for me, it's taking a back seat to everything else I need to do so it might be a while but I think I'm going to do mostly thistles on the belt...? Or leave it fairly plain... decisions decisions. Quote
Members vhakra Posted April 20, 2013 Members Report Posted April 20, 2013 I love the ravens you made! That is one awesome looking scabbard! Quote
