Northmount Report post Posted May 1, 2013 This is probably a really daft question but here goes , is there any reason why you couldn't use a wood stain to dye leather ? Do a search. There have been a number of threads discussing wood stain as well as wood dye. Stain has additional chemicals that some posters suggest will ultimately cause problems. Leela Valley Leather Report post Posted May 7, 2013 You can use the aniline base dyes (that are used to colour the stains), I've had some great sucess getting thne colours I want with powdered aniline dyes (water/alcohol soluble).
Django57 Report post Posted May 7, 2013 Thanks for the info , what ratio of powder to water do you use ? looks like it might go a long way. Found this site in UK it says for leather interesting. Plenty of colours to choose. http://www.restoration-materials.co.uk/www.restoration-materials.gbr.cc/info.php?p=2&pid=611452&ack=
Leela Valley Leather Report post Posted May 7, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the info , what ratio of powder to water do you use ? looks like it might go a long way. Found this site in UK it says for leather interesting. Plenty of colours to choose. That really depends on the dye, the red I have takes about 10gm/litre where as the methyl violet takes about 2gm/litre you just need to experiment as there is unlikely to be a single workable ratio. http://www.thewoodworks.com.au/shop/shop-browse/117?vmcchk=1 Get in contact, they may ship international, and they now seem to be responding to emails...
