rcsaddles Report post Posted May 5, 2013 Now that the new Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal is out and the Rocky Mountain Trade Show is a little more than a week away, I thought I would mention I am teaching Fundamentals of Braiding there. Just bare bones basic braiding but should be fun as well as informative. Anyone interested in taking a class can contact me here or email at rcsaddles@yahoo.com

rcsaddles Report post Posted May 7, 2013 Would be great to have both of you there. Brian, I'm not sure I could teach you anything but would enjoy having the help.
KnotHead Report post Posted May 8, 2013 Oh yes you could Joe. Every braider has something to show another braider. Even if they don't know what that is. Some may not even realize that they have something to teach. There are things in braiding that I don't think of. Better to have many creative minds than just the one mind. Even so, I'd enjoy trying to help and to learn. I heard somewhere once that the best teacher is the avid learner. A teacher who never stops learning themselves. My favorite thing to do in the art and craft is to learn and practice. Brian...
rcsaddles Report post Posted May 9, 2013 I do agree with you Brian. Everyone has something to teach and something to learn. I have been thinking about an e-book on braiding tips that you can't find in any of the braiding books. Probably should start writing them down so I remember what they are. KnotHead Report post Posted May 9, 2013 Well if you do come out with an ebook. Please let me know. I'd be the apart of the first to buy it. You have way more experience with Rawhide than I do. I could use all the tips and help I can get with it. Right now I have to buy my rawhide already cut. I find that the casing part of it is getting easier to do and getting it just right for the splitting and cutting. Brian...
rcsaddles Report post Posted May 21, 2013 Braiding workshops in Sheridan went great. The best workshops I have done out of nine. The students were willing to ask questions and help each other along the way. Had great fun and I think everyone enjoyed the time and learned a lot. Also did some personal training and all three people wanted to work on a pineapple knot and I happen to know that one so that went well also. Had a young lady from Italy in one class. She is an excellent carver and caught on to the braiding easily. I'm thinking next year of doing an intermediate class next year. Not sure what to do so I am open to suggestions. Maybe a dog leash so something similar. As a side note, I was challenged to do a braided rawhide item for the World Leather Debut. Already figured out what I want to do so I will be practicing this summer.

KnotHead Report post Posted May 22, 2013 Joe. I figured out what you could teach me brother. I work mainly with kangaroo hide and seldom get the chance to work with rawhide. The way I see it, the rawhide learning curve for me would be short. But at the same time I need to learn how to work with rawhide. Cutting(splitting, beveling), casing and the different conditioners to use. I have in my possesion 65 feet by 1/4 inch wide rawhide. I know that this will turn into a nightmare trying to learn the proper casing and when to split it and bevel it at the proper time. How and when to moisterize while braiding with rawhide is another area that I will need to learn also. I have a project in mind over the next year or so that I would love to make. It will combine rawhide and kangaroo hide. Hopefully, I can make this happen. LOL... So you see Joe. You do have something to teach me. I think when and if you have time, I'll be picking your brain. Not too terribly bad though. LOL... Brian...

Let me knwowhen you want to chat and I'll pm you with my phone number and the best time and day to call. I think when this is all said and done, we will have taught each other something.
