Members susansher Posted May 13, 2013 Members Report Posted May 13, 2013 Hi all, I'm new to this forum and just getting into leatherwork with moccasins. I've found that it's very easy to destroy an awl blade. So now I want to replace my blade, for now and in the future. (This one is still usable and I'm sure I can sharpen it, but I'd like to have backups, given my working technique or lack thereof). The stitching awl haft is a CS Osborne 145, as far as I can tell. Does anyone know if I need to get Osborne blades, or if any awl blades (such as the ones at Tandy) will fit? I asked them, but they said they didn't know and just to place an order and try it out. I'd rather see if there are any experts first who may know if sewing awl blades are generally interchangeable - both in fit and in quality. Thanks in advance...! Quote
Members susansher Posted May 15, 2013 Author Members Report Posted May 15, 2013 Hi again, Since there have been no replies, should I assume it's not known whether awl blades are usually interchangeable? Thanks. Quote
Members Matt S Posted May 15, 2013 Members Report Posted May 15, 2013 My understanding is that Tandy's awl blades are nasty. I have an Osborne no42, works fine. Quote
Members mikesmith648 Posted May 15, 2013 Members Report Posted May 15, 2013 You can order the osborne awl blades. Or better yet call Sheridan Leather Outfitters and get a Douglas blade Quote
