ofanera Report post Posted June 4, 2013 HI all- New to the forum but not to leatherwork. Just picked up an old Consew 226, so I could work at home instead of hauling myself 40 minutes to my rural shop. Here's the thing. I used to sew on one of these 20 years ago and am now remembering that it often dropped "corner" stitches, you know the ones where you turn the work 90 degrees and it does not pick up the bobbin thread in the corner. I've been sewing on a Consew 206 and don't have this problem. But this old 226 is dropping corner stitches! It's like a bad flashback! Any thoughts? Wrong needle? Using a 125 for leather with 69 thread top and bottom. Am I turning the work too soon? Too late? This is a maddening problem and I have a pile of work I need to get done. Help? Thanks! gottaknow Report post Posted June 5, 2013 Make sure when you stop to turn that the needle bar has gone all the way down and risen past the point where the hook picks up the needle thread. That way, the loops already secured by the hook and you can turn your heart out. If you turn with the needle all the way down, your hook hasn't picked up the the loop that probably not formed yet and you'll get a skip. Northmount Report post Posted June 5, 2013 Don't lift the presser foot too high else you lose the top tension, but you know that I'm sure. The other thing is to not turn the leather while the loop is forming for the hook to pick it up. I saw another thread a while ago and it told at what point in the needle stroke to make the turn. And I see that Eric has just given the detail I was missing while I was typing this. Good luck Tom
